05/29/2009 Doors Open: 8:00 - Headliner Begins: 11:30
Heywire is a four-piece roots rock group who captures the sounds of Southeastern American music, from the Delta to Appalachia. Their original songs pull from their individual and collective love for rock, funk, blues, soul, jazz, country, and bluegrass. Their carefully selected cover tunes and regular special guest appearances add a hand crafted feel to each live show. New Album SMELLS LIKE VEGAS: When Heywire’s founding members Michael Deeb and James Dabbs brought on Aaron Kaufman and Ashley Peeples in 2007, they knew they had something special, and after only a few months the band started recording SMELLS LIKE VEGAS, the group’s new album. Its eight tracks highlight their varied musical talents and their love for sincere songwriting. "The diversity fuses well into something of its own. Solid harmonies, splashes of banjo and acoustic guitars and moments of flashy electric guitar solos show the depth in songwriting." - JEFF HAHNE, CREATIVE LOAFING
NEIGHBORS ACRES
Start Time: 10:00
There isn't much that is more refreshing than a new band that uses their music to celebrate the traditions of their past while adapting them into an exploration of contemporary and progressive styles. Neighbors' Acres is one of those refreshing new bands. Neighbors' Acres is a seven piece outfit soaked in bluegrass standards and flavored with just about any other style you can imagine. Their arsenal of covers can range from traditional rollicking bluegrass numbers, funky r&b tunes (ala Morris day and Outkast, etc.), the southern blues rock drive of bands such as the Allman Brothers or John Hiatt, or even the rare spot-on Elvis Costello crowd pleaser that drops in out of left field. Either way, this extensive catalog teams up quite well with a list of originals that are even more impressive. There will never be any lack of diverse music that is guaranteed to please a crowd that is just as diverse. The earliest incarnations of Neighbors' Acres began in the living rooms of Brandon Driggers (banjo), Ron Fasick (mandolin), and Lucas Rosin (guitar) as jam sessions including fellow Winthrop University musicians Tom McClellan (guitar) and Patrick Allen (drums/percussion). The addition of Brett Nelson (bass) and Jason Poore (fiddle/guitar), later that year, helped to perfect the sound that Neighbors' Acres had been working to create.
