THE BALSA GLIDERS at Visulite Theatre on 02/01/2013

Visulite Theatre (16+ (Must have ID) - Under 16 with Parent Only)

Doors Open: 7:30 - Show Starts: 8:30

Ten years ago The Balsa Gliders stopped listening to indie rock and started playing it.

The Gliders are a loose collective of North Carolinians who formed friendships in Chapel Hill during the 1990s. Their spirited live shows recall some of the anthemic indie rock from the ‘90s that made the Triangle famous. The melodies echo local bands from Let’s Active to Portastatic to even Archers of Loaf.

Now based in Raleigh, Charlotte, Philly and various other places The Balsa Gliders write and perform alongside an assortment of decidedly “non-indie” day jobs. Bassist Greg Jones is an Episcopal rector with fondness for Motown and Zeppelin. Ben Davis and Charles Marshall are media lawyers who trade Guided By Voices tabs over lunch. Mike Ferguson is a surgeon who loves Propellerhead tools. Chuck Price works at a big bank and admits to liking Better than Ezra. Russ Tisinger has some sort of PhD.

They tour in a mini-van.

Start Time: 8:30

The showgoats are a four piece power pop band from charlotte. They having been playing the Carolinas since 1998. Their latest Album “lift Off” can be found on iTunes.

“Charted of a southern fried pop bent, “Lift Off” shimmers and glimmers with sparkling textures and melodies. There’s nothing complex about The Showgoats, as their arrangements and delivery are straightforward and easy to digest. Simple but effective tunes rule the repertoire. The guitars jangle and soar, while the vocals are breezy and bright. Produced by Jamie Hoover of The Spongetones (not to mention numerous other renowned projects), “Lift Off” is a stone cold winner, stuffed to the brim with tasty pop persuasions similar to those of The Everly Brothers, Gin Blossoms and Bill Lloyd. No sophomore slump from The Showgoats, that’s for sure."-twist and shake
