THE LOVE LANGUAGE
09/04/2010 Doors Open: 8:00 - Headliner Begins: 10:50 Tickets: $10 (Advance) / $10 (Day of Show) MILLER HIGH LIFE BOTTLES ON SPECIAL $2.00 The Love Language, initiated by Stuart McLamb, is a fortunate by-product of the North Carolina native's rudderless mid-20s, where a tempest of breakup, inebriation, and incarceration found the abandoned songwriter embarking on a storage-space recording project to slow his seeming disintegration. The growing body of emotional fight songs, committed to MP3 with a high-school era multitrack recorder, became postcards from exile, a way to let his friends and former flames know he was getting along, battered but not beaten. The self-immolating beauty of the budget correspondences was exhausting and triumphant; McLamb's dalliances with ... GARRIGAN
Start Time: 10:00
Singer/Guitarist Jay Garriganand drummist Shawn Lynch have played together for over ten years, and are familiar with the trials of many touring bands while they were in Charlotte NC’s indie rock outfit Poprocket: new loves, unwavering fans, lasting friends, weddings, divorce, death, poverty, pawning equipment, record deals gone bad, and exploding bass players. Many people think Jay and Shawn are brothers, not because they look alike, but because they treat each other like brothers – always seemingly finishing each other’s jokes, or having the license to talk shit and simultaneously defend each other.
Jay and Shawn met both CR Rollyson and Jason Atkins through the annual Fools Brigade benefit concert, where some of the best players of original music in Charlotte get together and play an annual concert for charity. Around the time of the 7th annual Fools Brigade, Spectra Records signed Jay Garrigan to a licensing and publishing deal based on his catchy, weird songs. Shawn and Jay quickly recruited CR and Jason, and four practices later were playing shows.
You could say that the members ofGarrigancollectively have been in some of the most successful and interesting bands Charlotte has seen: Jay Garrigan(2nd Skin, Violet Strange, Laburnum, Poprocket, Garrigan Bros,TransmissionFields), Shawn Lynch (Lou Ford, Mitch Easter Band, Temperance League), CR Rollyson (The Sammies, The Talk), and Jason Atkins (who actually makes a living from all the bands he plays in!). The members ofGarrigan agree they have not had this much fun and excitement playing music in years – and can’t wait to see you at a rock show!
