Athens, GA garage rockers The Whigs are very excited to hit the road this month and premiere songs from their upcoming album, In The Dark (ATO Records). The headlining tour covers 29 cities in seven weeks and The Features, The Dead Trees, and Mean Creekwill support the run at different stages.
Set for an early 2010 release, In The Dark follows up the highly successful albumMission Control, a record that captured the raw and gritty spirit of rock n roll and hadcountless critics scrambling to praise the band’s no-holds-barred, bare-boned aesthetic.

To give fans a sneak peek at In The Dark, The Whigs are offering the title track for free.

Since the release of Mission Control, which debuted on Billboard’s Alternative NewArtists Chart at #4 and #10 on the Heatseekers chart, The Whigs have performed on TheLate Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy KimmelLive!, have completed several tours with Kings Of Leon, The Kooks, Drive By Truckersand others, and have performed at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Fuji Rock and T in The Park, among other festivals and worldwide stops.

More details on In The Dark to come.

"[The Whigs] evoke the neo-roots-rock vibe of My Morning Jacket, the cool minimalism of The Strokes and the perfectly constructed pop of the early Sixties."
- Rolling Stone

"The results are excellent ... Front man Parker has a great rock growl - equal parts Frank Black and Ornery Grizzly - and he knows how to unleash it all over meaty riffs and thundering beats."
- Maxim Magazine

It is easy to see that these new comers are for real. They whip up a refreshingly invigorating batch of deep-fried garage rock that blends Dinosaur Jr. era rock with Pet Sounds psychedelia and tops it off with a ladle of R.E.M.-flavored gravy. ‘Give ‘Em All a Big Fat Lip’ is a dynamic album that clearly illustrates the skilled versatility of these recently-signed ATO rockers."
- American Songwriter

"The most consistently listenable – not to mention fun rock records you'll hear this year. Parker Gispert's twang-y vocals and rusty wail blend perfectly with the group's steely guitar stabs and drum-chugging pace. Thanks to a slew of catchy rock hits, The Whigs aren't going to remain a secret for long."
- Stuff Magazine.com (9 / 10 = Freaking Great)

Parker Gispert (vocals/guitar), Julian Dorio (drums), and Hank Sullivant (bass) create the rollicking indie rock sounds of the Whigs. With a jaunty mix of Westerberg-like style and a heartfelt country disposition, the Whigs played their first shows while attending the University of Georgia. Additional opening slots for the likes of the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and the Futureheads quickly followed for the young trio, thus leaving their 2005 debut album, Give 'Em All a Big Fat Lip, to be picked up by ATO Records. Word quickly spread about the Athens-based group, with Rolling Stone hailing them as one of the "10 Artists to Watch" in 2006. That same year, Sullivant exited the band to pursue a solo career as Kuroma; he was eventually replaced by Tim Deaux. With a new lineup in place, the Whigs traveled to Los Angeles in 2007 to begin work on their sophomore album, eventually announcing its completion that October. Mission Control was released in CD and vinyl formats in January 2008, and the band supported its release with a series of late-night TV performances and tour dates alongside the Drive-By Truckers. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

THE FEATURES

THE FEATURES

Start Time: 9:00

Hit Sheet- Weve never seen a drummer leap five feet above his stool and land perfectly in time before, or that much head nodding in the audience. If The Features dont break in the UK, it wont be their fault- this band possesses everything needed to go the distance.

Evening Standard 5 stars - Extraordinarily catchy anthemsThe Features are the United Statess answer to the Kaiser Chiefs. The World will soon be coming to them.

MOJO 4 stars
- Cracking debut from Tennessee pop mavericks. They certainly have an armoury fit to attack the mainstream. An amp-popping live show and a catalogue of songs that at once recall the Pixies and Blurs post Pavement fixation."

The Guardian
- A dazzling romp through Buzzcocks-like spiky pop and agitated soul reminiscent of the Animals. Powerful and poignant, The Features are difficult to ignore.

MEAN CREEK

MEAN CREEK

Start Time: 8:00

Chris Keene - vocals/guitar     Aurore Ounjian - vocals/guitar/harmonica

Erik Wormwood - bass      Mikey Holland - drums/percussion

"Mean Creek is not merely a great Boston Band; they're a really great band period. Everyone outside the 617 should be warned  Boston has birthed it's next prodigious band. Be prepared."
- Jay Sweet, PASTE MAGAZINE
http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/sweettalk/2009/10/mean-creek.html

“The Sky (or the Underground)’’ is destined to be one of the best releases of the year. It’s an album of pathos and heartbreak, of big questions about life and mortality that go largely unanswered and unresolved. The title track, for instance, can be heard as a meditation on the order of things both natural and cosmic; hope and futility bundled into a four-minute format."
- Jonathan Perry, THE BOSTON GLOBE
http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2009/06/26/for_mean_creek_being_perceived_as_rockers_is_no_mean_feat/

“Last month we debuted the first single from Boston indie rock quartet Mean Creek. Now the upstart group have an official video to share with you all for the '90s-esque "Light Into Dark." In the slick montage, shots of the band playing live are interspersed alongside meticulous birthday cake making from vocalist/guitarist Chris Keene. I won't spoil the ending but I'll say this: it gets a tad messy. Baking has never been cooler.”
