With an undeniable gift for songwriting that illuminates the joyous, mundane and oftentimes bewildering experiences of life, North Carolina based singer, songwriter & producer Jason Scavone has developed a unique sound that transcends traditional genre barriers, delivering a unique musical thumbprint that seamlessly melds the best of indie, pop, americana & rock. While influenced by a wide variety of artists from The Beatles to Sonic Youth and Ryan Adams, it was the moment Jason first heard Bob Dylan’s One Too Many Mornings that he knew he had to be a songwriter and he’s been honing his craft ever since.

Highlights from Jason’s musical journey include serving as frontman/ songwriter for The Noises 10, performing with acts like Jason Isbell & Derek Trucks Band, having songs featured in TV shows (One Tree Hill, Criminal Minds) and recording a duet of “My Repair” with Brandi Carlile.

Jason’s latest self produced album (mixed at Wilco’s Chicago studio by Tom Schick & mastered by Bob Ludwig) was written during the midst of the pandemic as he reevaluated his relationship with music and reflected on the uncertain future society faced.

MODERN MOXIE

MODERN MOXIE

Hailing from a small South Carolina town, multi-instrumentalist Madison Lucas took up songwriting as a way to understand and communicate the awkward and unrealized anxieties that often plague creative people growing up in uninspiring environments. Lucas’ style has always been narrative, a first-person account of her experiences which give her lyrics an easy and immediate relatability. Premiere in Lucas’ songwriting is her natural ability to create catchy, memorable melodies.

By 2013, Lucas had found a partner in crime bassist, Harry Kollm (Time Sawyer, Asleep in the Weeds, Jon Linker Band), who’s varied veteran experience propelled Lucas to get serious about forming a full band, thus bringing Modern Moxie into existence. Lucas and Kollm spent the next four years going through a series of line-up changes, working together to capture Lucas’ essential drive to get the melodies she heard inside herself out into the open. The duo spent this time kinetically writing, correcting, and transforming dozens of original songs, performing now and again, but mostly keeping Modern Moxie as a side project. After marrying in November 2017, Lucas and Kollm spent their first year as husband and wife recording with producer Kenny McWilliams to create an album together, a labor of love called Claw Your Way Out.

Late-night at a 4th of July party, Lucas eagerly shared a newly mastered song, “Light + Sound” off what had been recorded so far for CYWO. Guitarist Phil Pucci (Pullover, Serfs, Landless, Ernie) was instantly smitten by Modern Moxie’s knack for song structure which had their signature effervescent pop melodies floating over the distorted fuzz of angst-ridden guitar. Lucas’ vocals bloom colorfully, bursting in tandem with cascading cymbals that part for a laidback howled guitar solo. Pucci (who coincidentally officiated the couple’s marriage) joined Modern Moxie shortly after hearing the track and brought along original Serfs drummer, Charlie Weeks, to complete the current and solidified line up. Although Lucas comes up with the melodies, she trusts each member of the band in bringing their own flare to the songs. Both Pucci and Weeks dove headfirst into adding their distinctive textures into Modern Moxie’s still unrecorded songs and headed into Archer Avenue Studio in December 2018 to record the final five tracks for CYWO.

Claw Your Way Out was released in June 2019 and received Queen City Nerve’s Best Album of 2019 in their yearly Best in the Nest awards along with Best Band of 2019. The album has been streamed over 1.9 million times on Spotify.

After Claw Your Way Out, Modern Moxie continued writing together and have completed recording on a 5 track EP, Gutter Honey, which was released in March 2022. The album currently has 20K streams on Spotify and the first single “Big Wave” was added to SiriusXM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage (Ch. 21)

CARLY TAICH

CARLY TAICH

Start Time: 7:30

Carly Taich is a storyteller with the ability to lasso the darkest parts of the soul and deliver them with a smile. Her lyrics, often framed by swooning violins and barbershop harmonies, take us to another era, or dimension, where forgiveness is free and honesty, commonplace. There is a storybook mysticism to all Taich produces with one foot planted firmly in this reality. The paradox between the two worlds leaves listeners wondering if she is inviting them into a dream or attempting to wake them up.

A multi-award winning songwriter, Taich has become a known name in her hometown of Asheville, NC and beyond. Her most recent EP It Tends to Glow, featured by NPR and American Songwriter, explores the many lenses through which one experiences Love. Blurt Magazine named her previous record, Reverie, “a start-to-finish, no-filler/all-killer gem—a veritable calling card to greatness if enough ears find it.”

Taich’s crystal clear voice rings like a bell in the night to all who will hear: 'Out with the tragic, in with the magic, something feels different now. Light in the darkness, calm in the chaos, give me a likeness to Thou…' And everyone’s invited to answer.
